ed until Wednesday. Boyle's wife will

road Commission today Issued an or
der making wholesale reductions In
the rates enforced by the Pacific Ex
press Company. The "mercbandlm
class" rate between Portland and
Huntington, now $4.00 per hundred, is
reduced to $3.00. A rate of $2.25 be
tween Pendleton and Portland will be
substituted for $3.00.' The rate to
Baker City from $3.73 to $2.80; to La
Grande from $3.60 to $2.25. Tha re
duction applies to all points on tin O.

the rates of the Wells Fargo Com
pany's Express on the Southern Pacific.

sons are killed, six are missing and I
are in hospitals as the result of a
fire which destroyed a tenement In tha
Italian quarter here today. Two ba
bies were killed. ., Five were aav
whose mothers threw them from tha

Brossner. The two that were kllk-i
slipped through the policeman's arms.
After catching the babies Brossner
joined Officer White In a dash through
the flames and smoke to the upper
floors of the building where they found
31 panic stricken Italians huddled Into
one room all of them were rescued.

of the Summervllle district, were ar
rested yesterday by Sheriff Cbildera

been cutting wood and posts out of
timber belonging to the Wrights.
Paulson and Day appeared before Jus
tice Stewart this morning and plead
not guilty. The examination waa set
for Monday at 3 o'clock. The affrlr
is considerably mixed, for the two
men aay tbey were directed by John
Hawthorne, of Summervllle, to cut the
timber. It seems that Ambrose
, Wright, according to the story of the
defendants, was formerly partner in
