OF O. TEAM CLOSES SEASON WINS SEVEN OCT OF TEN Word conies from Eugene that the university ball team of this year is :he best Oregon ever turned out. It made nn enviable record on its north western tour, losing only three games out of 10. The trip w;as an exception ally hard one on the players, as three Karnes were played in 36 hours In the .Willamette valley on the begin uing of the trip and seven games were ilayed In six days In the Inland Em ;)lre. The team traveled 1200 miles. On the entire trip cold and rain .vete experinccd, and In the raw winds 'he Oregon pitchers seemed hardly- Able to warm up having to rely on control rather than their accustomed curvesj During the games at Idaho the thermometer registered but 41 de crees and the wind blew so that sev eral times the game had to be de layed until the dust cleared. Coach Kelly was very well pleased with the team, and says by the time the championships are played off at the Alaska-Yukon-Paclflc Exposition Oregon" will beat all .comers. Every man on the team hit over 200, Ga brlelson, Clark, Jamison and Cole man, hitting above the .250 mark. The following men made the trip: Gabrlel 3on, Hurd, Henkle, Van Marter, Nel jon, .Tamison, Clark, Coleman, Mc-Kenr-le, Sullivan, Word. McKinley, Manager Bean, Coach Kelly and Dr. Leonard. As Oregon is putting much more money and attention into baseball this year than previously, tne snowiug u the Oregon team Is especially grati fying to the students and the local fans. .. RETAIL GROCERS PLAN CONVENTION PROGRAMME Officials of the Portland Retail Gro cers' Association have practically de cided upon the -programme for the an nual convention of the National Gro cers' Association which takes pl.i:e here June 2-5. Arrangements are In the hands of Secretary Charles B. .Merrick, of the local organization, and he has settled on most of the plans except to secure a banquet hall with sufficient capacity to accomodate the delegates for the big spread which will close the formal programme (he night of Saturday, June 5. It is Uk ly that 350 to 400 delegates will be here for the gathering, and about the only dining hall big enough for such a crowd is in the Commercial club. This will probably be teeured. The pro gramme opens Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock, and three business sessions will be held the opening day. followed by a smoker at the Arlon hall at 9 i-. m. The delegates will take a trip up the river the next day, and In the evening Secretary Merrick will enter taiu editors of trade papers In attend ance.
