Yesterday afternoon' while Tom Peat'n and Cam Caylor were out driv ing the bay colt belonging to Pattison Bros, delivery, they had a real genuine runawayon their hands, and bear the marks of it today on their faces. When turning the corner of Hughes place out on the Ladd Creek road the 'colt became frightened at something and began to buck. . The cart struck an obstruction and threw both boys out, bruising them up considerably. Caylor held on to the frightened ani mal for a time, but was compelled to let go,, or be dragged and probably killed. They are both at work today, but neither of them would like to enter a Marathon for a few days. The boys were able to walk in to La Grande from the scene of the acci dent. The cart is out of commission with a broken shaft. IVrry At Cove. COVE, April 26. The Perry team came over yesterday, and went back home again. The final Bcore was 9-2, In favor of the home team. Salee, the La Grande player, gave satisfaction as umpire, and his decisions created very little criticism. Mires, for Cove, held the visitors down to four hits; Nelson allowed 10 hits, but had nine strike outs to his credit at the end of the game against seven for Mires. Gulling and Pete Johnson, the body of Charles Melquist was brought down from Bak er City last night, and removed to the undertaking, parlors of Henty & Carr, wheie it remained until 10 o'clock this morning. lie was then removed to the Elks lodge room. The funeral took place under the auspices of the Elks this afternoon at 3 o'clock and interment was made in the 1. O. O. F. cemetery. Chas. Melauist was a resident of this city for many years and during the period of his prosperity was most liberal and progressive and enjoyed a laifee circle of personal friends.
