Mrs. E. E. Slater, and Mrs. A. B. 'Cherry went to Pendleton this morn ins 'for a visit with relatives. They will be gone about a week. Attorney Robert R. Lloyd who re turned to his home' in Elgin today, lias been sick Tor something lilce 10 -weeks. During that time he has not ueen in his office at all. Mrs. Wood and her daughter Mrs. Anderson have returned to Hot Lake, after having spent . Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Pendleton E. O. The North Powder flouring mill shut down today In order that ex tensive repairs may be' made.- The capacity of the mill Is to be increased. The proprietors are preparing for a prosperous year. Rev. John Moore, who came here from Kansas about a week ago to look for a more healthful location than that of his present home, left for Pendleton this morning. He will al so visit Spokane before returning to La Grande. Mr. Moore Is a brother In-law of S. K. Baker. ' . . Much regret Is felt by the Commer-1 clal club and those who were plan ning to make a trip to the Twin Falls country, that the proposed junket has been called off. The club was unable to secure such concessions as they felt would Justify them in asking the farmers to go, and the matter as a consequence has been Indefinitely postponed. - 4 SOCICTX. ; Mlfes Laura Holm will entertain the members of the Philathea and Baraca classes of the Presbyterian church Frlduy evening at her mother's home on Elgth and W Utreets. Smith or the Sandrldge, has marketed five lread of cattle lately, The average weight being about 500 which is probably greater than that of any like number of cattle ever berore slaughtered in Eastern Oregon. A cow which weighs, dresswd, 600 pounds Is considered rather large. Theaverage weight being about 500 or 550. Of the lot Just sold by Mr, Smith, one weighed 1070 pounds, and the others 888, 802, 8 If -and 790 pounds respectively. They were fat tened on alfalfa, and not stall fed. FOUND. A place to buy goods. A Jolly party of La Grande people were guests last evening .with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kiddle of Island City when the suburbanites entertained at 500. The. La Grande people made to trip In autos, returning after the snow ' storm. At cards Mr. Conkey won first prize. The luncheon was more elaborate than usual at similar parties, and the locals speak enthu siastically of the whole- affair last evening. Those who were there are: Mes&rs and Mesdames Jay Van Bur en.
