B. A. Benjamin, of the La Grande
Investment company, thlB morning
made the acquaintance of 24 tourists
who are on their way to Portland.
There were 60 in the original party,
all from the vicinity of Benton Har
bor, Mich., but the others took the
Spokane line, and will go over the
Northern Pacific to Portland. They
expect to make that city their head
quarters for at least three months, or
until they have found a suitable lo
cation In some other part of the North
west.
The members of this party were
favorably Impressed with the appear
ance of our valley, and asked that
booklets be sent to each of them at
Portland. They will also send the
names of their friends.

La Grande lost its first game of
the season .yesterday afternoon when
the Union team nosed out a victory
ni the last two Innings of a game
that was marked at frequent inter
vals with errors and considerable
hitting. ' The two teams Jigged back
and forth, but a costly pantomine of
errors oh La Grande's part lost the
game to Union.
La Grande did not exhibit the skill
and steadiness of a week ago while
Union was up on its toes all the time.

children of Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Nelson,
now of Vancouver, but formerly living
here, stated they were anxious to send
money to the park fund, they today
sent 105 pennies. Coming from afar,
the park commission feels hiehly
elated over this addition to the "Mile
of Pennies" fund. Special thanks
have been extended to them.
