here yesterday between Union and
Cove was a very tame affair after the
first few Innings. After that the
Union team went up into the air and
the Fruit Packers had it all their own
way. There was nothing doing in the
first, and during the second one lone
score was marked up for each team.
In the fourth, Cove came to the front
with three, and likewise again In the

with Col. Roosevelt hboa'd, pr rived
at 2 o'clock this aflernoou. Roosevelt
landed at the arsenal, and Mr. Roose
velt whisked away in Duke Ascotl's
automobile for luncheon. Ambassador
Grfscotn went down the bay in his
launch to meet the Hamburg..
The. streets and public buildings
are draped with American and Italian
Dags. The various legations and con
sulates are wearing riot color. ' For
the past two days, visitors from in
terior have been arriving to see the
ex-president. A storm at sea preven
ted prompt landing of the ship this
morning.

UNION, April 5. (Special) Rob
bers last night entered and robbed
the F. W. Davis hardware store. En
trance was affected through the rear
doors after a glass had been broken
and the lock picked from within.
Among the articles known to have
been stolen are: One' shot gun valued
at $30; two revolvers one worth $15.
50 and the other $5.50. Pocket knives
valued at more than $100 also disap
peared and the cash drawer was
cleaned of Its contents something
like $3.50.
The robbery occurred between the
hours of midnight and 4 this morning,
but as far as the public knows, no
trace of the men has been found. It
Is thought the authorities have a
strong due.

working out with a baseball club rec

Traveling Engineer Johnnie Shea,
now located at Portland, but until
recently a resident of this city, arrived
last evening on an official visit to this

Money is accumulating at the U.
S. land office here pending the Instal
lation of Colon R. Eberhard as re
ceiver, an event that. Is hardly an
ticipated for three weeks yet. Those
who buy land or make final proof de
posit money with the register who
acta as keeper of the moneys until
the receiver's office will be resumed.
Considerable money was deposited in
tills way today when several made
final proof on homesteads. Mr. Eber
hard lias received his bond blanks and
lias forwarded them to Washington.
