One of the bout things that hn been suggested In a long time for tho bet terment of the Grande Hondo valley, ..Is the proposition to construct large Irrigating canals for the reclamation of the high and dry lands of the valley. As the 'situation stands at present, about the only way to make room for the new settler la for Smith to sell out and Jones to buy In. and under tho new rule of building Irrigating canals and the opening up of new land, room will be. made for more new settlers and tho population of tho valley In creased accordingly. The Importance of reclaiming dry lunds Is very great, nd every available piece. of land of this class that can bo placed under water will add, much to the tillable land and population of the valley. The reclamation of arid lands and the breaking up of large tracts orfer about the only opening for an Increase of population in this valley.
