Opcm House Karly In April Many Solos niul Ducts. Members of the La Grande band are planning for a magnificent concert to he given in tho opera house on the night of April 5. The program Is In coursr of preparation, and will con sist of band music, violin and cornet solos, with at least two vocal solos, a clarinet duet by James Snodgrass and Mr. Adklns, and a violin solo by Miss Young. As yet the program Is not complete, but that It will be. the most elaborate and enjoyable affair of the kind ever given In La Grande, goes without saying. The proceeds will be used to purchase new uniforms. These will bo a natty dark blue, with trim ming of black braid. The band Is a credit to the city and deserves much praise and substantial appreciation. The members, every one, are either In business In the city or are employed here, and make La Grande their homes. The tickets for the concert will be 50 cents, any part of the house. VXKAKTH SKELETON. On Monday, the stream of water from the hydraulic slant, which is being nsi d to sluice down the hillside, unearthed a human thigh bone, nnd the workmen ore now watching anxiously to find further portions of the skeleton of some man whom they believe to have been burled there In an early day. The thigh bone was of flic left leg. and from Its size the man whose sole relic It now Is. must have been six feet In height. It was uncovered at a depth of 'from six to eight feet from the surface f the hill, and was In an excellent state of preservation. A close watch la being kept and the men expect within a few days to unearth other parts of the skeleton. It Is believed the remains must be those of some old prospector who wan dered off In that district In an early day and died, or of some emigrant who missed the old -(.'migrant road, leading out by the Virtue mine, some five miles from where the bone was found, and was burled on the hillside. When the melee had eased up a bit, the C'urrey chariot was minus a wheel and some other accessories, but the animal and driver escaped un harmed. Circus Strikes New York. New York, March 25. A new cir cus came to town toaay, anu is snow ing in Madison Square- Garden. This Is the biggest circus In the world, and is the combination of Kingling with Harnum & Bailey, which every spring for 25 years has appeared at the Gar den. The llingllng show is the only show that lias been able to compete with the Harnum lial'ey. In 26 years it has risen from little or noth ing tv the highest honors in the circus world: It now owns the Harnum & RalU y circus, w hich has to open Its season this year in Chicago. Refore James A.
