ktance. At 5 o'clock last evening the re
mains of the late J. P. Donnelly were
brought to La Grande by special train
from Kameln, where the conductor
met Instant death yesterday. The ver
dict of the coroner's Jury empaneled
by Coroner Folsom, of Pendleton, was
that he met death accidentally while
attempting to board a moving freight
train.

had not assumed a very rapid rale of
S)ieed, Toing about 10 miles an hour,
when tlie accident occurred. It was
not a matter of failing to reach the
hand rail on account of too much
speed, but one of those unaccountable
Incidents where, when the task seems I

was a matt-r of losing his hand hold,
II is believed. John Ormond, the rear
end lirakeman, was standing on the
car which ground the conductor to
death, lie. saw him go under the ca
boose, and knew what the end would
