Feb. 5. Late last night information was secured to the effect that a surveying party had arrived In Pendleton for the purr"? of making I r-llmlrMry survey of a proposed jr-fertrir- l;n? l, ','"r iV3'i(ton ami Walla Walla. Wednesday night Mr. Mason, claim ing to be the head of a surveying par ty, with three other men, made appli cation at the Olcott boarding house on Johnson street for rooms for himself and the three others. He informed Mrs. Olcott that he would be in this vicinity for some time and that the men would start to work at once on the route for the trolley line. Last night the Tribune representa tive endeavored to locate these men ut one of the hotels, but fulled to do so. Other Information at hand, however, is to the effect that this surveying party had been expected In Pendleton before the first of February, and that the work had now actually begun. In a conversation over the long dis tinct telephone last evening, Mr. E. S. isauca of Walla Walla, president of the Washington & Oregon Traction company, the company which holds the franchise in this city, said he knew nothing of the surveying party and he was not aeriuajnted with Mr. Mason. Mr. Isaacs also said that he had no statement to make public at present regarding the plans of the Washing ton tc Oregon Traction company. w.
