templating erecting a fraternal tem
ple this coming summer. Standley
lodge No. 113, A. F. & A. M., has over
25000 available as a building fund, It
having been enriched by a bequest of
25500 In the will of the late J. O.
Standley. The K. of P. has over 230O0
In Its building fund, so the financial
part In In excellent shape. Negotia
tions are being made with the Wal
lowa Mercantile company, . which Is
planning to erect a fine stone building
on the site of Its present store room
and on Its vacant lot Immediately we.t.
This would give the company one of
the largest and finest mercantile rooms
in the county, and the .lodges would
own the entire second story, giving
them a space of 58x100 feet to divide
up into lodge room, banquet hall,
kitchen, dressing and ante-room.

A good many husbands are utterly
spoiled In the cooking. Some women
sot them constantly In hot water;
others let them freeze by carelessness
and Indifference. Some keep them In
a pickle all their lives. It Is not rea
sonable to suppose that any husband
can be tender and appetizing treated
In this way, but they are really dell-
clous when properly prepared. In se
lecting your husband you should not
be guided by the silvery appearance,
as In buying mackerel, nor by the
golden tint, as in picking salmon. Be
sure to select him yourself, as tastes
differ. Do not go to market forilm.
The best are always brought to your
door. But It is far better to have none
unless you will patiently learn how to
cook him.

close to the kettle, and so become

If thus treated you will find him di
gestible, agreeing nicely with you and
the children. He will keep as long as
you like, unless you become careless

Find Rich Body of Ore.
A telephone menagre was received
from the Uncle Don mine in the Virtue
district, yesterday afternoon, stating
that a largo hnfty of ore Mad been en
countered I- ,v,tit property, says the
Baker Democrat. In fact. It Is one ofi J
tne larger.: deposits or ore yet uncov
ered In tv lrncle Dan, being over 10
feet wide at the point where cross-cut.
Much of the ore Is of high grade char
acter, while al of Its seems to be of
good milling grade. The mine Is be
ing developed In a systematic manner,
and this makes the third apparently
extensive chute of ore known to exist
there. The mill, which Is one of the
most pnrfpctly constructed In the state,
will be put In operation in the early
