January Is, will not think that the dark yellow nutmreU In the chain which plays such a vital part In the William Vaughn Moody drama are of pure gold from the same section of Arizona in which the fabu lously rich Verdi mine, owned by Ste phen Ghent In the play was supposed to be situated. Uulil a year or so ago the chain used was made by the, prop erty man and Its value was about 75 cents. The one now performing was brought from Tucson to Mr. MJller. and Is the result of a resolution made by him more than two years ago. When the acto-manager awoke on the morning after the first New York per formance his first $2000 profit from the play for a string of real nuggets taken from the mountains of the ter- vlioiy which furnish the picturesque nttlnfr of the play. That amount was placed In a separate bank account to be held Intact until It could be devot ed to the purpose intended. Gold nug gets of the uniform else desired are not easily obtainable at this distance from the source of supply. Mr. Miller was unable to further his desire until Mr. Moody, the author, had mentioned .something about going to Arlxona for three-weeks vacation. It was then .vhen Mr. Miller commissioned the liumatlst to buy the nuggets and he succeeded In getting them', though not vlthout a good deal of difficulty. This nrcclous chain does not live In the nr'in" trunk with the other portables if "The Groat Divide" production, :nd except when In use on the Htage t reposes In a smull steel vault which i carried in the personal trunk of the tase manager with the organization.
