Name "Ee-lio" Not Suitable for Stock feeding Town, Says the Geographic Board Other Changes. Pendleton, Dec. 28. That the name of the town of Echo may be changed to a name believed by the Oregon Geo granhic board to be more appropriate and to one of historical significance, !s the opinion of Ma'jor Lee Moor house, who returned yesterday from Portland, where he has been attend ing th first meeting of the board of which he Is a member. Echo, according to the plan discuss ed at the board meeting, may be known as Henrietta. The name will carry a reminiscence of the stirring ' Indian wars of '56. at which time Ft. Hen rietta was established in that vicinity by soldiers from Ft. Dalles. The name was originally given In honor of Hen rleeta Haller, wife of Major Haller, In command at The Dalles, who, when the solfliers were ordered Into this section to fight the Indians, furnished them with a wagon to haul their sup plies. Later J. H. Koontr. and Major Moor house called the town Echo, In honor of Mr. Koontz's daughter, the late Echo Koontz Miller. Now a move ment Is on foot to restore the old name. Jinny Changes Discussed. Many other proposed changes were discussed, according to Major Moor-, house, at the first meeting of the , board, which was held In the off'oo ft the president. Will G.
