Elgin, Dec. .26. (Special.) Fire
this morning destroyed the elegant
Cyrus Rush residence on the outskirts
of the city, with a loss of $1200, at the
lowest estimate. The blaze was dis
covered only after considerable head

but little water pressure at hand.
There was little to do but to save
as much of the furniture as possible.
Everything 'on the ground floor was
removed- In safety, but the fiercest
portion of the fire was upstairs, pre
venting egress by the firemen. There
Is no insurance. The origin of the
fire Is unknown.

Last evening the capacity of the
Pastime was taxed to its uttermost.
The pictures were Just what the au
dience wanted. This evening the

the exception of the pictures entitled
"The Song of the Shirt" and "Maggie,
thA Dock Rat." The first number
mnntinned is a dramatization of the
famous poem which graphlcly depicts
the awful conditions which confront
the women who operate the sewing
machines in the crowded tenement
districts of New York. The other pic
ture has to do with the wharf rat con
ditions along the water front, and
will furnish excitement enough for the
most exacting. Mr. Ferrln has re
turned and will sing two selections.
One Is. entitled "Grandma," and the
other will be of his own selection. Re
member, the program this evening
will be an exceptionally good one.
