To those particularly interested In the growing of apples, an experiment made at Delta, Idaho, will be of value. !n the spring of Inst year Thonvis and Francis Hauck, two miners, who keep u garden, and grow strawberries and vegctablea, expeiimonted In grafting a won of a 4-year-old appla tre Into a aarvk-e berry tree body, and to their delight the limb not only grew, but blossomed this year and two well de veloped yellow apples ripened. The tr-e from which the se'.oa was cut has never bloomed, jvt the sciou wtu n grafted Into a berry bush blossomed ami bore fruit the next year. This Is somewhat remarkable and of Interest to every grower of fruit. The successful grafting is one ac complishment and the growing of the fruit from the grafted bush when the original tree has never bloomed Is an other. This Is not a fruit section, but the Haucks have experimented by set ting out 100 trees. For rutabagas no section of the country can grow larger ones than are grown here. , For better flavored and larger strawberries this mining camp challenges the world. Yet no one attempts to grow, fruit, vegetables or berries for the market, and only a fow miners grow for their own use. . Pulling for Experiment Station. President W. 3. Kerr of the Oregon Agricultural collego, will be here the latter nal't of th'8 month upon business connected with the movement to se cure an experiment station for' the Umatilla project and also to attend the banquet which theJCmatlila coun ty O.
