Banker Wright of L'nion, Not Interetit-
ed In New Charter.
' The rumor has beeft current In La
Grande for several days that Banker
W. T. Wright of Union, hadmade ap
plication for a bank charter to do bus
iness in this city. Owing to the fact
that it was well known that within the
last two years he had under considera
tion the purchase of the Farmers &
Traders' National bank, the rumor
was given some credence. Mr. Wright,
while in the city yesterday, stated that
he had not considered the matter and
had not applied for a charter.'
In reference to his former at
tempt to get a bank In this city, "Mr.
he had practically concluded the ne.
gotlatlons for the purchase of the
Farmers & Traders National bank and
when he came over to close the mat
ter Mr. Scrlber remarked, "You un
derstand, Mr. Wright, that I am to con-
tinue as manager for one year." , ;
Mr. Wright stated that he did not so
understand that such were the condi
tions, and declared the deal off im
mediately. , At that time he did not
vnderstand why such si condition would
be Imposed or expected, but In view of
recent developments It la now easily
explained.
