and other facts reviewed by the attor
ney for the state. Justice Stewart dis
missed the case.
. Bondsmen Relieved.
The two bondsmen who signed their
names to the npw bond made necessary
by the new arrest last evening, were
Mrs. T. N. Murphy and Julius Roesch.
These two were relieved from further
responsibility- this afternoon when the
case was dismissed. '
The Good Roads convention which Is
now in progress In this city, Is-being
fairly well attended by the business
men and farmers of the valley. Presl
dent Collier of the Commercial club,
called the meottng to order and called
upon Hon. Walter M. Pierce to outline
the objects of the meeting. While Mr.
Pleretf is known to be one of the burli
ness men in the county, he soon dem
onstrated that he appreciated the value
or K'od roads and cited the lact that
old New York state was at this time
spending $50,000,000 In Voads and lo
cal communities as much more. Only
one thing in this county, was of such
importance as good roads, and that
was the Irrigation problem that is now
before the people, but be turned this
into a logical and practical boost for
good roadsi by showing that Irrigation
would so Increase property values and
Increased population would result In
good roads.
. President Scott, of the state Good
Roads movement, was then Introduced
and was' on the floor at the time of
g'llng to. press, demonstrating what waa
being done throughout the state In the
way of organizing county leagues and
work toward securing' needed legisla
tion at the coming session of "the legls
lature. " " -v- v v,...n -... .......
... i
President Scott paid a glowing trlb-
and hopes n the near future to own
no fees than 100 acres of our fruit land.
He has lust returned from Baker
county, where a league was organized
and It Is certain that with the enthu
siasm and attendance this afternoon,
Union county will not falter in her
duty, x .

. A very pleasant hour was spent In
the primary room of the high Bchool
building today, at noon, when the
teachers of the grades entertained
those of the high school at a very in
formal luncheon. Although the num.
ber seated '' was found to be 13, it
seemed to have no depressing effect
upon those present. ,
The great political questions of the
day were thoroughly discussed and the
social hour wa3 as much enjoyed as the
bountiful menu provided. Those pres
ent were:
Mesdames Ivanhoe, Sutftn and In
gle; Misses Hilliard,. Kuhn, Bush, Mc
Hugh, M. Harris and H. Harris;
Messrs. Hockenberry, Wllkerson, Mlck-
elson and Mansager.
