Roosevelt family. , Today 'is also the anniversary of the president's first marriage with Alice Hathaway, on October 27, 1880, who lied on Fcbruray 14, 1834, two dayB after giving birth to Alice Lee Roose velt, now Mrs. Nicholas Longworth. The president's second marriage, with Edith Kermit, took place on Decem ber 2, 18S6, and five children, four of them boys, have resulted from this union. ' The president was born on October 27, 1858, In New York, and was the son of Theodore Roosevelt, Sr., collector of the port of New York, who died In 1878. He Is of old Dutch stock, tracing his ancestry back to Claes Martens zen van Rosenvelt, who , emigrated from Zeeland, Holland, to New Neth erlands in 1649. D. 1908, in the county of Union and the state of Ore gon, being then and there an officer an , employe,' to-wtt:; the cashier, of the' Farmers & Traders NaMonal'Bank of La Grande. Oregon, a private cor poration, did then and there felonious ly embezzle and fraudulently convert to his own use ' the sum of $391.41, lawful money of the United States, an exact description of said money being to the private prosecutor unknown, said money being' then and there the personal property of the said Farmers & Traders National bank, and a de posit therein of the said' private prose cutor, and which $391.41 then and there came Into the possession and un der the care pf the said J. W. Scrlber by virtue of his being such officer and employee of said hank, contrary to the statutes In such cast's made and pro vided, and against the peace and dig nity of the state of Oregon. Feared a "Getaway." Mr. Coolldge was one of the bonds men who feared Scrlber would disap pear and leave the burden of the bonds on their hands. When It be came publicly known last evening that Scrlber was out on $15,000 bonds when the shortage of his bank were $120. 000'or more. Mr. Coolldge and others were anxlou to have their names withdrawn. The action taken today is presumably to hold Scrlber her on additional bond or In the Jail until juc t!m the goTt-rtiaeatr takes hold of hi case. The bondsmen, or rather some ef them, felt that Scrlber absence would be a heavy - financial loa to them, and while not o stated.
