It. follows: ' Spokane,' Wash., Oct. 15, 1908. ' To the Stockholders: ... The development of our .- vast oil and gas holdings in the Malheur oil fields, is progressing very nicely. The standard drill is now complete in every respect, and will be running before this letter reaches you. This rig is one of the best in this field. It has acapaclty of S700 . feet, and is equipped with every necessary for rapid drilling. This rig has been In stalled on the southwest quarter of section 4, township 20, range 4 .south. Property of the company. We have been assured by a number of Toll ex perts that at this location we will strlkje an abundance of oil, of a very high quality. , The company ha drilled eight pros pect wells on its property, finding In each small quantities of oil and gas, live oil sand, lignite, gypsum and other positive indications. In fact, every formation and indication that oil ex perts base their reports upon, have been found here. The oil indications have been so pronounced that all ex perts who have visited .this field are confident this field will be pne of the largest producing fields in the United States. CONSOLIDATE OREGON TOWN'S. Plan to Make Freewater ami Milton a Suburb of Walla Walla. , "For a combination of Freewater and Milton, and call the product South Walla Walla." That Is the suggestion made yesterday by R. C. McLeod, edi tor of the Up-to-the-Tlmes magazine. "It Is an apparent fact," he says, "that so long as the two towns remain, an old, and to all appearances a Tasting spirit of rivalry is sure to exist. "The exhibits from both Freewater and Milton this year are equal, if not superior to anything ever seen in this state, or even the northwest. The Freewater display of fruit Is certainly a thing of which the people' of the little Oregon burg should be proud, and a credit to the Walla Walla valley. That there Is a spirit of jealousy and rivalry between the two towns, which are so colsely related by physical and municipal lines, Is to be regretted. ."But, because Freewater won first prize on Its fruit exhibit at the fair should be no reason why Milton can not collect a display Its equal, for the products, soil and climatic conditions are Identically the same In both. Un der a common name it Is likely any feeling of animosity which now exists would rapidly disappear. "Beside the probability of healing old municipal wounds, both towns would be materially benefited by be ing so closely allied to Walla Walla, the Garden City of the entire north west. Similar enterprises in other cities huvo proven to be of great help In buililln? up the additions and also la Increasing the prominence of the parent city, it tends to increase real estate values to a marked degree and brings addt-d homeneekers as a result. "That either Milton or Freewater is nn ideal place for a home can hardly be doubted when all conditions are taken Into consideration. Both the towns have every advantage and con venience as a metropolis, and yet re tain the seclusion and quietude so much desired by the averago home builder. With an hourly street car service at the present, time, and Im provements promised as the popula tion warrants the same, the 'South Walla Walla' suburb would be one of the most desirable locations. "As. a residence district South Wal la Walla could not be surpassed and It Is likely it would In time become the dwelling place for the bon ton residents of the city." The plan suggested by Mr. McLeod, ays the Walla Walla Union, has been discussed to a limited extent In the past, but has never attained the pro pitious circumstances for amalgama tion which bow seem to prevail. It Is likely the matter will be taken up at greater length by citizens of the towns represented.' : ; V A L U C S The real value of : your property de- : pends entirely upon : : the title 2 A properly ; prepared ABSTRACT will showycu the exact of y cur title condition CALL AT OUR OFFICE AND LET US EXPLAIN WHAT AN ABSTRACT MEANS TO YOU Jim OLIVER La Grande National Bank Building THAT'S AT FEKGCSOX'S. f Sauerkraut 1 New and Fresh Best Dill Pickles Just POP CORN Kind that pops 5 Pancake Flour and Syrup CITY GROCERY AND BAKERY. 1 E.Polack, Prop, t 8c?omp as we and It lor The Badge of Honesty Is on every wrapper of Doctor Pierre's (Julden Medical Discovery becauso a full list of tho ingredients composing It Id printed thoro In plain English.
