The Latest.; v The latest "rumor on the street is to the effect that Mr. Scrlber is to go into voluntary bankruptcy and the petition is to be filed as soon as prepared. The records do not3how anything as yet. If correct, It but goes to show that the depositors may expect little fror.i Seriber's individual property If bank ruptcy proceedings are instituted. . , Tofal Defalcation. ',' The Observer last evening made the statement that the defalcations are In the aggregate, so far as known, to be about 125.000. . Since Mr. Seriber's bond has been fixed at. $15,000, and the charge" against him being stipulat ed at $12,525 as the amount of hie misappropriations. It might be assum ed that 'the above is the total. No one but the bank examiner knows tht exact amount, and he will not stat whether it Is one dollar or whether It is $30,000 or any other amount. ... It It known, however, that the warrant foi his arrest was based upon information known prior to the arrival , of th bunch Of alleged forged paper held it Seattle, which amounted to $15,000 and of this amount it -was thought anc o reported, that $4500 was good pa per, leaving a balance that was not good of $10,600. . . , Yesterday Deputy District Attorne; Evans stated that when he first cam he thought his Information, whlcl -oad something like $12,000,' would bt 4ufficlent to. hold htm on, but since arriving other bad paper had come to light While Mr.' Evans did not refer to the Seattle matter, it was so un- lerstood, therefore, if' the . govern ment had $12,000 prior to this batch it would seem that a general state ment of about $25,000 would not be far out ,of the way. However, thU matter will all be made public later. i rid in case the defalcations do not ex :eed $25,000, there is reason for tht Jepowltor to feel good, "provided theri Is not too much worthless paper. 1 Li ViJ Li U U I J?
