EVENING OBSERVER, LA GRANDE. OREGON. SAinUUV, OCTOBER 10, 1008. PAGE SEVEN. Tf CAT AWD THE HDDLE" TOWGHt CUPJAltiS lmL BE RAISED ON FIRST ACT AT NINE O'CLOCK VThe Cat and the Fiddle." , . . There Is an attraction at the Baker this week which every child .will be tickled with, say a recent Issue of the Portland Telegram, referring to '.'The Cat and Fiddle" which comes to the Steward tonight. It is ''The Cat and the Fiddle," one of those extravagan zas which are rarely ,found on -the road these days. From the start "The Cat and the Fiddle" made good with the capacity audience, and swung along at a lively clip, keeping the house' In constant suspense,, owing to the sur prises. The company must be carry Ing a vast amount of - scenery ' and "props" ' for ; there are Innumerable "drops" and a multitude of trick stuff. It is even more of a "trick scenery' show than "The Devil's Auc tion" or any of Hanlon's spectacular successes of a generation ago. Almost every 'minute something' happens. Flowers spring out of nothing, and so do dinners, smoking material and even people. All disappear, with equal dis patch. There are more things doing than at a circus, for articles are ap pearing and disappearing again In all corners of the . stage. Mechanical magic plays an important part in the entertainment, and when the tricks are momentarily suspended there are songs and dances by "a capable com pany of comedians and pretty girls. of block 108, of Chaplin's addition to the town of La Grande, Union county, Oregon; "also an undivided one-sixth Interest In and to lot 5 of block 2, "B" street, original townslte of La Grande. "The Holy City" played to a house well filled with appreciative people lust evening, in a manner highly cred itable. Though seen last year there were many who went again last eve ning and were satisfied again. There are close to a half d,ozen first-class actors and those who cannot lay so much claim to notoriety, ''figured less conspicuoubly, making an even bal anced compuny. Acting such as Is seldom witnessed In any tragedy, was put to the view of the audience from the first curtain to the last drop.
