The Baptist church ladles will have a cooked food sale on Saturday at the Adcook & Frltts furniture store. A. M. Oastln, who has been spend ing the summer in Modesto, Cal., was ' in the city this morning on his way to his old home In Wallowa. Justice Alf Currey returned from La Grande this morning, where he had been for several days on business. Baker Herald. -. Mrs. Helen D. Reports received from Elgin today indicate that the Taft-Sherman ('club to be organized there tonight, will be effected with a rousing membership. Methodist preachers of Union and Wallowa county, are congregating in Enterprise today for a meeting of the Ministerial association. D. Madden and S. Boddy of Enter prise, went to Walla Walla this morn ing. They will attend the fair there before returning. Rev. Upton H. Gibbs and Judge Wil liam Ramsey returned last evening from Pendleton, reporting having had a splendid time. Mrs. J. 'D. Snodgrass arrived, this morning from Baker City to place her son in the Sacred Heart academy in this city. .She Is visiting with Mrs. D. C. Brlchoux while in the city. Mr. and Mrs. Price, who have been visiting with Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Hill, returned to their home In Portland this morning. Mr. Price Is an attorney with the Cake & Cake law firm. Mrs. George Foster and Miss Cyn thia Cheesewright of La Grande, are expected In Baker soon for a short visit. They will be the guests of Mrs. J. M. Lapp and other friends. Baker Herald. Rt. Rev. Bishop C. J. O'Reilly will leave this morning for Helena, Mont., to be present Sunday next at the cer emonies attending the laying of the cornerstone of the Catholic cathedral to be erected there by Bishop Carroll. Baker Democrat. Rev. George T. Ellis, who is well known here, passed through the city today en route to Athena. After a few days spent In his former city, he returns to La Grande for a short visit and then goes back to Baker City where he will be permanently located. . The Rev. Dr. Nevlus, who was in tending to come here last night and remain over Sunday as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Jap Stevens, was unable to do so, having been taken seriously 111 in Pendleton, where he was attend Ing the Episcopal convocation and preached the convention sermon; Mrs. B. E. Evensen, formerly locat ed in La Grande, writes from Grant! Pass that she still thinks the Grande Ronde Is the best place on earth, not withstanding she has left it. The highly exciting robbery of the Northfleld, Minn., bank,' Is told in a story film at the Scenic tonight in a film entitled "Younger Brothers In Minnesota." The picture If a thriller and keeps the audience at rapt atten tion. There is ample grounds for laughter in the other films. One of the funniest things seen here for some time Is the story of the lone'y gentleman. Morris & Morris and F. A. Walters each continue to be draw ing cards. Morris & Morris come out in a new sketch tonight. The short drama which the duet put on last eve ning took well with the house. "How Glue Is Made" is exceptionally ilr.t, showing the pro cess of making glue from start ' to finish. Rally day at the .Union Sunday school was a very Interesting one, the attendance being double what It was the preceding Sabbath. The superin tendent and officers are bending every effort to make the school one of the best In the valley.
