He is under promise to return to La Grande netx year. Dan Kelly .returned home from Portland last evening, jvhere he has been undergoing a feasting-' era due to the victories won at the Olympic races. Dan admits that he is glad to get back to Baker, where he can have a little rest. Baker City Herald. Superintendent M. J. Buckley and Master Mechanic J. T. Mr. Buckley, who has ieen very sick for several weeks, is now convalescing. L. Stllwell has reopened tho old Boss Meat Market on Fir street, and is now in charge. It will be remem bered that Mr. Stllwell originally opened this market some five or six years ago. For the past few years Mr. Stllwell has resided on his fruit ranch in Fruitdal, but has concluded to again move to town and engage in the mar ket business. Presbyterian Brotherhood, which last winter had a successful year, has been organized again after a summer vacation. At a meeting held this week officers for the ensuing year were elected. They are: T, H. Crawford, president; C. . E. Cochran, vice-presiaeni; vv. Xjanarum, sec retary and treasurer. The club had a' highly enjoyable series of meetings lest year and this winter they will meet the second Mon day of each month for the purpose of continuing the work commenced last year. The club enjoys a membership of about 30 at the present time. niCII PROSPECTS. La Grande Boy Returns From Salmon River Country. L. A. Wright', who for the past two years has been prospecting In the high mountains 180 miles north of Boise City, arrived on the morning train in response to a letter stating that his Bister, Mrs. Ira Klrtley, was dying, Yesterday he received a telegram at Boise telling him to come on the first train, and he did not learn of her death until he reached here. Mr. Wright brought with him some very rich samples of ore. His mine Is located in the Sea Foam mining dls trlct, 12 miles distant frm the Lost Packer, which is now turning out $12, 000 per week.
