Re- 2 member refreshment parlors are the finest in Eastern J mm mi SYSTEM Walla Walla.' Sept. 16. The Union says:, ... ' .-':.; - . Announcement was made in this city yesterday that the Northern Pa cific railway system Is soon to inaug urate an entirely new method of train dispatching, which Is calculated to materially lessen detail work of dis patches and minimize accidents. The new syste mis known as the "A B C" system, probably so named because of its simplicity. It is an elaboration of the block system. Trains are obliged to get orders at every station and are not allowed to proceed until the' order is delivered. The "A B C" system increases the efficiency of the road, enables the operation of a maximum number of trains, with the least delay, reduces the work of the train dispatcher, and. in, connection with the block signal system, makes collisions as near im possible as any means human sklU can devise. " . i - . ; , .,..... . .Given year'. ivi.-' . The new system is known as the the Northern1 Pacific s between Rltx vllle and Spokano for about a year. It has been given a thorough test and has been found to be adequate In every emergency. ' . ', , In brief, the system Is this: A train leaving Tacoma for instance, receives orders as far as Puyallup. . At Puyal lup the train gets an order to Meeker Junction, at the Junction there la an other order for Sumner, and so on. if the track Is not clear the train gets no order and it Is obliged to watt un til It Is. At stations where there is not a regular stop the order Is de livered by means of a loop which can be caught on the arm of the conduc tor or engineer as the train passes. . Under the old system a train would leave a station with perhaps a dozen or more orders for meets with other trains at different points. If anything happens to any of the trains so that tho schedule was broken, the entire lot of orders would have to be chang ed. Adopted by Other lluods. A party of Harrlman officials re pently made a trip over tho Northern Pacific from Rltzville to Spokane to Inspect, the system. They wer so satisfactorily impressed that a recom mendation was made for its adoption by the entire Harrlmnn system. The National Association of Train Dispatchers has also endorped the "A B C" system and recommends Its adoption by tho railronds. . 10 DECIDE (HIPIS As soon ns the weather clears and !he courts ure once more In condition, i tennla championship scries will be Instituted, which will In the end stump rhamplonnhlp honors on three or four cliu.es of players In the Alirori'4Uln Tennis club. The primary elec tion system Is grow ing In favor because the people wlnh to rule through their servants nnd not to be ruled by iHisses. In Oregon th old convention system Is dead though politicians of the old school are doing alt they ran to discredit the new law. The people have regained ihelr politi cal prerogative, and they mean to cling to them. In Washington the primary law has brought many cnndl ites before the voters good men who would not have entered the po litical arena under the old convention system.
