A lively de bate between the conservatives radicals of the Church of England In Canada will likely be precipitated at tho session of the General Synod to be held here next month. For some time there has been much opposition among the more orthodox church men to some of the advanced teach ings of clergymen and college pro fessors. In order that -the matter may be threshed out by the 8yno. the Kev. Dr. Langtry has Introduced a motion attacking the higher criti cism. Tho higher critics" and'rhod ernlsts". within the church will likely oppose the adoption of such a motion, and a verbal warfare may result. AT THE PLAYHOVSKS. 999M SC4S . C . .. , ...k. . Great. In this thrilling picture we see soma of the perils of the great French mo tor race, and get a good view at alose range of all the principal and danger ous points along the cuunw. T.. ture shows us two distinct races going over the same course, one la the com petition of light runabouts, and the other for heavy racers. The first pic ture shows the men getting ready for the struggle, and starting away amidst the cheers of the excited throng. In each race we see cars from the same points and get a clear view of the oad from an elevation, and see them dashing along at a terrific rate of speed. We get a view' at close range of one of the machines as It dashes around a Curve and turns turtle, roll ing over many times, killing the driver and injuring the assistant. The next Icturn shows n point on the course whero there are two curves within a short distance of one another, and the spectators are held spellbound as the cars reach this point and round them at a terrific speed. A few go amiss, however, and wo see them turn com pletely around and topplo over. An other point of Interest is at a very sharp curve, slmila- to the hairpin curve on the.Vander'iiit course, which is Inclosed by a high fence to keep the spectators back. The cars dash n round It at full speed and a number make It without mishap, but vo see a fow who lose control of their' cars, skid around and dash through the fence, upsetting, and causing no end of excitement. The hist picture snows tho finish and w get a view nt close range of the win ners nnd their cars, and see their hr p- py faces as they receive tho beautiful ind well deserved trophies The Scenic The patrons of the Scenic have but ml.fht in which to witness the splcn !l;l progiam. now running there.
