Prof. HIeks, who made several as
censions in his balloon here- recently
and who .almost broke Tils neck In at
tempt to , make an ascent at Baker
City, visited the Looking Glass country
yesterday to decide whether or not he
could make an ascension there next
Sunday for the benefit of the tourists.
No decision has been announced, but
It Is not likely that he fancies alighting
on tree tops which are prevalent In
that section of Oregon. However,
Hicks' nerve Is sufficient to warrant
most any kind of an attempt.
Later Hicks will make the ascent
at t o'clock Sunday.

London, Aug. 7. It , Is stated on
good authority that C. Arthur Pear
son, the London newspaper and mag
azine magnate, who owns a string of
newspapers In England, and has de
cided to invade Canada. He will es
tablish newspapers In several of the
larger cities of the dominion, and if
successful, may enter the newspaper
field In the United States.

rushing that the manager, Gardlnler,
has found It necessary to provide 60
additional chairs In order that his au
dience may be comfortably seated. The
additional seats will be placed In po
sition this afternoon and will be ready
for this evening's performance. By
special request the two headllncra Will
be shown again this evening. They
are the "Nocturnal Thieves"- and the
"Fat Baby." Both of these numbers
were such favorites that numerous re
quests were mnde for their reproduc
tion. The two new funtures, "Wouldn't
That Tire You" and "Oh, What Lungs
Are Both Good Ones." There Is
enough comedy to make a slek man
laugh. They aro fun-producers and
no mistake.
This evening Miss Gertie Pike and
Mr. Bean will sing a duet. This will
be one of the strung features of the
