At a meeting of a committee of the board of regents of the Oregon Agri cultural college, which met at the ex rwrlment station In Union yesterday. It was decided to drain and tile 100 acres of the swamp land belonging to the farm. Tha original estimate was placed at 1 1500, but since the estl mate was made concessions In freight ratea had been secured from the O. R. & N., which will reduce It to about I3UVD. Those present were Regents J. K. Weatberford, Capt. J. T. Apperson. Walter M. Plerca and A. T. Buxton, master of the State Grange, whose of fice makes him a regent. The board was delighted with the progress the station was making, and the condition of the crops and grasses. This will be the first large field. to be scientifically tiled In this county, and to foothill farmers tn this valley will watch with Interest the results Of course, there can be but one result, and that will be a Krmt Increase over former yields when the ground can be properly handled. The booster booklet seems to be very well arranged, and both the printed matter and the pictures will be fjrst class. Mr. Collier has called a meet ing of the board of managers for to night and they will examine the plan of thVbook as proposed by the Puclflr Monthly people, and will either ap prove or reject It. inasmuch, how ever, as Mr. Ro'hratmcher, who do signed the booklet, conferred with the board of manager before carrying out the work. It Is probable that only a few changes will be made. There will be about 60 fine cuts In tho booklet, and they give a good Idea of the beau ty of the valley and the variety of our resources.
