Several Little Girls Thoroughly En
' Joyed YoHtcrday.
There are some little girls of this
town who had a good time yesterday,
and don't you forget it. Their good
time began Jong before they went to,
bed Thursday night, for, you know,
half our good times and our bad
ones como from anticipation. The
little girls who' yesterday was par
ticularly enjoyable were, first of all
(for wasn't she the' ope' moat con
cerned?) little Ruth Ackles, daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Nerl Ackles.
Ruth lives on a farm, and she counts
It an especial pleasure to visit grand
ma, Mrs. George 'Ackles, . In town.
Well, Ruth was a guest at grandma's
this week, and yesterday several of .her
most intimate friends were Invited to
come and spend the afternoon with
her, from half , past three to five.
They came, all of them. There were
Lily Suydam, Beulah Ellsworth, Dora
Thorne, Lena Gibson, Mamie and Mad
eline Secrlst, Stella Crablll, Furn and
Lela Sampson. And didn't they have
a perfectly splendid timet" At five
o'clock they were served with a three
course luncheon; at S:30 they were
taken for a drive around the city, and
best of all, before returning home,
Mrs. Ackles took them In a body, (a
happy, wriggling, giggling little body)
to Mr. Rltter's gallery, and they had
their pictures, or rather their pic
ture, taken. And each little girl Is to
have one, and Ruth's grandma Is to
have one. Don't-you think she de
serves It, girls T , And somebody else
Is to have one but we shan't tell.
PREPARING FOR HARVEST.
Fanners Getting Ready to.-Gatlier In
. the Sheaves.
' From the amount of work being
turned out by the La Grande Iron
works. It Is evident that the Union
county farmers do not contemplate a
crop failure by any means. Mr. Fitz
gerald haa a force of mechanics busy
rebuilding and repairing threshing
machines and farming Implements.
The foundry Is doing other work. To
day four lumber cars for the Wilcox
Lumber company were completed, and
will be taken to the mill on Lndd creek
Monday morning. Yesterday Mr.
Fitzgerald purchased 10 tons of ma
chinery, which was burned when the
Union Lumber company's pinning
mill was destroyed. The La Grande
Iron works certainly has an air ot
business and Industry..
