Welser's fame as ball players has died ' an Ignominious death. La Grande has given the "asgebrushers credit thus far for being an aggrega tion of ball players of a high class, but the real spirit of the Idahoans has beenuivuigeu. Tow uua a flr-t class straight game If they are ahead, but Just as soon as their chances are waning, they get angry and quit. "Quitter" la the most detestable name that can come to the tongue of a lover of sports In any of Its varied forms. The Welser team Is a quitter spelled In big letters. Readers can form their own application of the word detesta ble, m this Instance. Drummers who know Wleser's rec ord attest to the rumor that this Is Welser's little game. That, rather than bear the sting of defeat, they Jump at a chance to kick, like te drowning man grasping the proverbial straw. They grabbed at the straw yesterday In the shape of an over throw and had the nerve to Interpret a passed ball rule to cover overthrows from the field. A nice crowd paid good money to see the game and were robbed. The effect Is bad on La Ornnde. but worse to Welser. Never again can random rely on the quit ters. That the Velseritcs are hardened to this extremely poor sportsman's con duct was evinced by the way In which they faced "the hisses and Jeers hurled at th:m from every corner when they amblcdx off the field. When La Orande stoops to the diminutive net of quilting a game on a trumped up proposition like Welser did yesterday. It's all off. But they won't for they arc sportsmen and not kids, a term which fulls short of covering the act of the Welser manager yesterday. Because the managed used to piny In a back yard on such principles at a time not far In the past. It Is no sign ho can carry It Into a community where baseball Is played. If that Is Idaho's style of baseball, give us the Oregon stuff. Sherwood's Change. With over 1000 feet of reel In the "Legend of the Ghosts," the Sherwood Electric presents a strong fenture for the week end. Along with this splen did piece arc several other good ones, which all go to make up a strong at traction. LOW RATES EAST Will bo Made by the O.R.&N.
