Though the cherry harvest Is somewhat delayed and will not be In full swing until about the 15th or pos sibly the 18th of this month, growers and buyers are looking about for cars plication has been made to the Pa- clflo Express company for special ex press cars In which to make the east' em shipments of fancy cherries, and promise has been received that this will be done. E. Z. Carbine, one of the local grower-shippers, has taken the matter up with the head office of the Pacific Express company and expects results. Heretofore the com pany has not favored local growers or buyers with this accommodation, raising the cry that the cars were In too great a demand It being taken for granted that extra cars were rush ed to points whore competition exists. Mr. Carbine alone expects to make shipment of approximately 12 cars of cherries. If his plans fall not, he will ship canning cherries In refrigerator cars by freight, and the fancy eastern shipments by express. I Ramsey & Oldenburg, local buyers, are at present shipping strawberries by express and are awaiting the time when the cherry harvest will have commenced and shipments on a large scale will be In order. All shippers agree that the prices will not be high this year. The stand ard price for contracted canning va rieties Is $80 per ton, while the fancy kind will sell at 4 to t cents per pound. WOLF CREEK CROPS. "'Uncle John" In the City From Ills Wolf Creek Form and Talks Farm ing. J. H. O'Bryant, familiarly known as "Uncle John," came down from his home on Wolf creek this morning. Mr. O'Bryant la well along In years, but he Is still an active participant In all that pertains to the' good of his county and state, and wields quite a powerful Influence In his community. The crops on Wolf and Clover creeks, according to Mr. O'Bryant, who owns one of the finest farms In Union coun ty, about four miles from North Pow der, are very good, except where there Is no Irrigation. On the hill farms where water Is not available, grain will be quite short, and the hay has suffered considerably from lack of rain, even more than In this valley. The fruit, with the exception of straw berries, which wero damaged by the cold weather, Is very good. It Is not the Bible In your pocket but the Bible in your practice that will make you better.
