The first engineer to be assigned to
his regular engine was Engineer Mor
gan. It will take some time before all
engineers are back to their old en
gines again, but it Is being done as
rapidly as possible.

ing taken his oath of office today to
succeed John E. Hough, who has
capably filled that office for several
years past.
Congressman W. R. Ellis left this
morning for his home in Pendleton.
The Commercial club was preparing
to give him a reception this after
noon, it beli-.g understood that he wai
not to return until this evening. Con
gressman Ellis has a warm spot in the
hearts of the hearts of the people of
La Grande, and the club Intended to
tender him ihelr appreciation for the
fine oration he gave us on the Fourth
and his general good will toward La
Grande.

last Wednesday evening. The bride
la an accomplished young lady who
until last week made her home with

school last spring with the class of
'08. The groom is a popular and en
ergetlc young man, who for the sev
eral years past has been employed
with the O. R. X. In this city. He
left La Grande more than a month
ago and was Joined Inst Tuesday by
the bride. The Observer Is only one
of a large host of friends of Mr. and
