FIRST LAP FINISHED. . i - Walla Walla Paptr Gives Out Dope on Inland Empire League, With the close of the aeries of games between Baker CH and Walla Walla on the local grounds, the first lap In the Inland Empire league race has been completed and shows La Grande to have a comfortable lead over the qther three clubs, which, however, are closely bunched, Walla Walia in second place, relates the Walla Walla Bulletin. AH teams have now played two series with each of the other clubs In the circuit, one of them at home and the other In the enemy's country.- , v Starting out the season with four straight victories over Baker City's team which at that time was a very weak aggregation. La Grande has succeeded In keeping quite a bit ahead of the other members of the organiza tion. But of late the other clubs have been' engaged In strengthening and from now on the Babes are going to have to hustle. Walla Walla has done the best of any of the three cities of the seven games, and still having an opportunity of bettering this rec ord In the event that she can take the postponed game yet to , be played with them In this city. - ' ; Pendleton cornea here tomorrow for a aerlea continuing up to and includ ing Sunday, while La Grande will play Baker City on' the latter's ' grounds. Should the Nuggets succeed In taking three out of four from the leaders and at the same time the Garden dis aggregation should do the same to the sheepherders, things would grow In tensely Interesting In this locality. Walla Walla, on dope, looks ar strong as any team In the league for the coming fray. French, the hard hitting center fielder, will be back In his old position tomorrow, after hav ing to lay off for several contests on account of an Injury received while running bases. Dutcher is showing up satisfactorily at third, while Har mon has been moved to the outfield where his great ground covering abili ties can be used to the greatest ad vantage and where he will probably be able to do greater work with the stick. Our pitchers, Anderson and Ehmke are working nicely and Kllll lay Is being counted upon to' get his share of the "wins," as soon as his hand gets well. White behind the bat la a star and has done much to keep the team In the running. The re mainder of the club are doing thett best and are backing up the pitchers In strong style, both In the field and at the bat To Nominate Praddent New Tork, July 2. Another presi dential candidate wilt enter the ract as a result of the national convention here of the Socialist Labor party, to begin tomorrow. Many delegates have arrived, but no agreement on a pres idential ticket has been - reached. Overtures with the socialist party leaders have apparently failed and Deba will not be Indorsed. By reason of his South American birth, Daniel DeLeon, leader ot the party. Is not eligible for the presidential nomination.
