"Blight la very easily told. Exam ine the tree carefully, and you will see the erids of the limbs or leaves withering and turning black, the leaves still clinging to the dead boughs; and If' the limb is cut where diseased a dark, sticky substance will exude, often running down the side of the limb or tree, thus affecting the part and spreading the disease. Birds or Insects alighting on the same carryj It to other trees and thus the farther spread of the disease. As blight woras in ui si n im hard to reach by spraying. So the most effective remedy is to cut out all affected parts well below any signs of the disease, and wash the cuts with strong solution of blue atone and wa ter. Also disinfect knives, saw; etc., by thoroughly washing In same solu tion. . "Be sure to burn all parts cut off to prevent further spread of the disease." MAURICE OWNS PAPER. Well Known Would-Bo Preacher Has "Hunch" to PumIi the Prnrll. Maurice O. FltzMaurlce, the Itiner ant lecturer who established a tem porary abode In Pendleton some time ago, has embarked In the newspaper business In the state of Washington. It will be remembered that when Mr. Fltzmaurlce, with his breezy familiar ity, blew Into Pendleton, he -was a candidate for the bar examination, but owing to certain untorseen contingen cies over which he had no controf, Mr. Fltzmaurlce withdrew at the last minute. His unfortunate experience before the bar suggesting by antithesis the comparatively untitled fields of arid prohibition, Mr. Fltxmaurice harbored the Intention for a time of starting a temperance newspaper In Pendleton. He confided his plan to several news paper men of Walla Walla, whom he Intended possibly to shanghai for his new sheet 1 That Mr. Fltxmaurlce's newspaper ambitions did not fade at the time when he made hi Ingrowing debut Is shown by a recent report from Pom eroy. He left Pendleton some time ago. Immediately following hi return from Walla Walla, where he became mixed up In the Barnes case, and had not been heard of for some time. Be fore coming here he was a lecturer and had been traveling through east ern Oregon. The following dispatch from Pomeroy, Wash., tells of Mr. Fltxmaurlce's present business and In tentions: M. O. Fltzmaurlce ha had a com plete printing outfit shipped here and Is setting It up In the Thompson build Ing on lower Main street. Not much Is known of Fits Maurice except th.at he was until recently a public lecturer, His political belief Is unknown. Pendleton Tribune. f-iiiTwomr Ehxiric Clianm. The lovers of the' good old-time melodies will be certainly well enter tained next Monday at the Steward opera hous with the delightful tunes of the old southern , ballads of the times "Befo' do war." The Nashville Students, have always been 'a com pany, especially selected by the man agement for their singing quality. It has long been conceded that no one cun get the harmony and music out of those songs like the real darkey. There la also added to the entertain ment, plenty of good, clean comedy, and some of the latest and most pop ular ballads of the present time. The show Is especially for ladies and chil dren. From the time the curtain goes up, there Is always something doing, either In sing ing their old southern ballads, v for which. the negro la noted, or some of the latest songs of the day with the entire company singing the chorus.
