Teacher and Manager, Telephone Farmer 1171. EW HEAD OF BALLIEAM Pendleton .June 18. At a meeting of a number of baseball fans yester day afternoon at 2 o'clock In the Com mercial club rooms, a change In the management of the Pendleton team was effected. E. K. Lorlmer, who has served as the business representative of the nine, tendered his resignation. His place was supplied by Dean Ta tom. . ' , t . ' . - Mr, Lorlmcr's resignation came as the result of a pressure of private business. He Is Interested In some land In Montana and intends to give his attention to that. His absence from the city within a few days for a period of several weeks will be he felt It wiser to resign than to con tinue and be unable to give "his full time to the team. . .y "When I undertook the manage ment of the team," said "he, "my idea was to serve as -playing manager. In this manner I could have given most of my time to the nine Itself. I found, however, tha,t it was necessary also to raise a good deal of the money to back the team. With, So many du ties to perform, my private affairs were badly neglected." That the team is ln: no financial straits as the change in management at this time would Indicate, Is shown by the fact that while the subscrip tions are not large, they are sufficient to meet current expenses and to py off all old outstanding debts. This It U declared. Is as good a showing a may be expected at this time. Pros pects that the treasury will be filled within a few weeks are considered good. The subscription committee will get busy and expects to raise a substantial amount. Then n profita ble series with Baker City Is about to be played. Finally, the gate receipts for the Fourth of July game are ex pected to bring In a good many slmo leons. Captain Tic Appointed. At a meeting of the directors of the Inland Empire league, Captain E Storer Tlce was appointed official um pire, says the Baker City Herald. This Is good news to the baseball fans for all know "Cap" is a first-class In dicator man. Now that he Is of fids' umpire there will be no more back talk by rowdy ball players. This af ternoon the team was out practicing and the new men showed up In re markable form. A series will start with Pendleton In Baker Saturday, playing four games. Pendleton'r earn haa boon atrcngthened as wei: as Baker's, and good ball Is expected. Although Hosier's Nuggets lost three out of the foiy games at Pendleton, they will have better team work and the fans look for them to captur three of the four games. It Is ru mored that several bets have been made as to the outcome of the series and now Is Baker's chance to redeem herself In the baseball world. Three of the old players were dropped from the ranks owing to the fact that they were unable to get Into condition. Better Than Spanking. Spanking does not cure children of bed-wetting.
