The week Just closed hat been a fe licitous one for the University of Ore gon. Since our last edition of the Weekly our track teamshas defeated Washington and Idaho on the track; our baseball team has won two out of three game played; Max Snow has won the singles In the tennis tourna ment giving Oregon the - northwest championship In this event; and to cap the climax of all these victories. Jesse H. Bond. '09, with his masterful oration "The Evolution of Character," has been successful In winning first place In the Interstate Oratorical con test over the representatives of the state universities of Idaho and Wash ington. Verily, Oregon students have good reason for' rejoicing over what our representatives In the various lines of avtlclty have done for us. The loyalty that has been shown during the trying months of the last year Is commendable. Faculty, alum ni and students alike have stood firm and remained loyal to our university even when things looked blackest. This kind of spirit will continue to bring victories to Oregon. Our facul ty members have unsolflshly gone without nay during the last three mnnrha for the sake of the university: our alumni have neglected their bus iness and their profeswlons to devote all their energies to the passage of the appropriation bill. Students have caught tho spirit and flooded the state with letters urging others to stand by the varsity. The University of Oregon Is how about to enter upon a new phase of her career. " The standard of spirit, of loyalty brought out more strongly than ever .during our period of adversity Is a fit criterion for fu ture generations to live up to. Ore gon Weekly. . .
