Members Bolton and ' Meyers were somewhat late, and on their arrlvnl a resolution was quickly passed to pre vent them from answering to roll call. The sewslon was long and tiresome. A number of ordinances were read and discussed. The regular reports of the officers were approved. A petition of O. J. Price and others for a sidewalk ou North Fir. street was granted. The water committee recommended that the bid of M. Shirley for digging a ditch for a four-Inch main on Parson street at a price of five cents per run ning foot be accepted. The bid of Mr. Shirley reads: "Four cents' for digging, and one cent for tilling." The contract for numbering and for street signs will be let to Messrs. Faulkner and Simmons. They will bo paid 19 iX:: ?;-""" l l used In side, the fire limits, and 21 cents"' for tin slsrns for use elsewhere. . Tho work will coat about 1200. A resolution to provide for a city pound was read and approved. Tho pound will be estab lished on lots 1, :, 7 and 8, block 13, Chaplin's addition, at the corner .of Sixth and B streets. ' The commtltre on paving made nO report, but will do so at the next regular meeting. The city printing was ordered to be divided between The Observer and the Star, the bids of both papers being the same 2 cents per line. The ordinance pro. vldlng for the storage of explosives was again referred to the city attor ncy. The street sprinkling problem was left hi the hands of the ways and means committee, which will report at the next meeting. The Rhrwood. .Patrons of the Sherwood Electric theater have some good things in store for them this week. Mr. Sher wood made a election in arranging this week's program. There is just enough comedy to create a few good hearty laughs and enough sensational to keep the pulse of the spectators up to the proper standard. The featura number Is,' "Will Grandfather' For give?" This is an exceptionally strong number. The pictures are all that could be desired, and the subject Is well chosen. It deals with the old story of the poor young man and the rich girl. The girl remains true to her lover and is driven from her palatial home by her grandfather. The usual hardships of poverty are endured by her and finally by an accident her husband Is taken and she and their child are reduced to absolute want. The grandfather, through compassion for the little one, finally forgives the daughter and the picture ends with an exhibition of a harrr family. Re member the Chang: . : j this eye nlng. fctraln and Ttyliwriia rs. One of the results of the il-jtion In Umatilla county was ' the re-election for the third . consecutive time of Sheriff Til Taylor and Assessor C. P. Strain, both democrats. Umatilla county is republican by a comfortable majority, but the -efficient work of Mr. Strain in the matter of aniens ments has endeared him to the hearts of the people, and Sheriff Taylor' well known ability In running down criminals of every sort, has placed him In a position where he can have the office for the asking. Both men as also the voters, are to be congratu lated. . Ormrtmg la dead Issue. Bo says Dr. H. C. Par ker of tho Indiana School of Kedl tflne. In Collier's VWti.ly. We concur with him.
