Whllo Taft and the peerless Bryan now havo re ceived such endorsement aa to make jhem practically the only men In the race for the presidential nominations, It ia barely possible that black horses -will make their appearance. Johnson adherents have not thrown up the ghost In democratic ranks; and there sura members of the republican party who still believe Roosevelt will be nominated and that Hughes and La Folletlo each have a fighting chance. v. . see t It was hot La Follntte'a fault that the conference report on the "Faith cure" currency bill was adopted. The Wisconsin senator who, by the way, Is aoms sightly presidential timber, Sen ators Gore of Oklahoma, and Stone of Missouri, have placed their names on the slate of the senate's famous. These three men Justly believed that the amended currency bill was Inade quate, dangerous and very much un - desirable. That the conference re port passed was because human en durance gave out. e. -Judging from expressions heard on very turn, the fanatics, cranks and Irresponsible gentlemen of western Oregon will be frustrated In their ef forta to put the "kibosh" on tha unl versify appropriation. It la only to be hoped tha returns tomorrow will abow, not alone a victory, but auch sua overwhelming majority that no man ever again dare meddle with a conservative appropriation to the state's principal school of learning. ee- ' Card of Thanks. Practitioner Barred. Washington, June 1. Six promi nent Washington attorneys have been disbarred from practice In the depart ment of the Interior after today. It Is alleged that they sought out otd sol diers or their widows to whom land grants had not been Issued and in formed them that such land could be had on application. When the war rants were issued the lawyers advised the holders that the land could be sold at a nominal figure. In most cases the veterans would agree, the land becoming the property of" the lawyers, who sold It at a large profit. The lawyers disbarred are Thomas R Harney and Eugene E. Stevens, form ing the firm of Mllo B. Stevens A Co.; Harvey Cpauldlng, Edwin W. Spauld- Ing and James H. Spalding, forming the firm of H. .Spalding A Sons, and Edgar'P. Oaddls. Literal.
