EXCURSION CALLED OFF. '
There , will be no excursion to La
Grande next Sunday, says the Baker
City Herald. That wag settled for
good and all last night when the
railroad company, through agents at
this place, Informed the executive
committee of the Baker Concert band
that a special train would cost 1208.
But there was further stipulation In
the contract, and It was this additional
agreement where the band commit
tee balked and declared all negotia
tions at an end. The railroad assured
the boys a train would be run for $208
but if they should sell over that
amount in tickets, the surplus was to ,
go Into the coffers of the road, and j
not In the treasury of the band. And, '
