versy has been waged over the Bryan

Bryan men are claiming certain vic
tory In tomorrow's convention.

In the state capital today, preliminary

for each congressional district of the
state will be elected to go to Denver.

committeeman will also be chosen.
Bryan's endorsement by the conven
tion is apparently a foregone conclu

Peoria, 111., May 19. Large herds of
the antlered tribe are arriving In Peo
ria today for the state convention of
Illinois Elks, which will be held In
this city during the next three days.
Business houses throughout the city
have been decorated with the colors
and emblems of tho order, several
bands have been engaged and other
arrangements made to render the
gathering a memorable one.

new 11.500.000 collier, the Vestal, the
largest vessel of Its kind among the
navies of the world, was launched to
day at the Brooklyn navy yard. Miss
Goodrich, daughter of the command
ant of the yard, christened the ship.
Many distinguished naval officials wit
nessed the ceremonies.
