ker City last rilght a quarter of an
hour before the train came and both
left Baker at the same hour. Wad
dcll did this on a bet of $100, and
winning it he demonstrated that the
elephant he is riding over the country
Is faster than the steam cars.
An Old Maine Boy.
Advertising car No. 1 of the Sells
Floto circus Is here. The manager,
W. K. Roddy, was born near Haines.
He has 20 btll posters, who today are
billing the great Sells-Floto circus for
La Grande Friday, May 29. Hun
dreds of people are waiting for this
Show. They know It Is big, good and
clean.
BOOKS (LOSE
The county registration books close
tonight at 6 o'clock, and for a period
of several months will be stored
away In th vault at thu clerk's office.
They will be reopened again for regis
tratlon prior to the presidential elec
tion next fall.
' There have been but 150 voters, ap
proximately, who have registered
since the primary election was held.
This amount added to the total reg
istration when the books closed for the
primaries, leaves yet five or six hun
dred unregistered voters In Union
county. Tho exact flsu.-es of registra
tion for the June election will be com
plied In a few days. As soon as this
is done; the list will be published In'

Charles M. Perdue, contestee, In which
It Is alleged:
That said Charles M. Perdue - has
wholly abandoned the land described
In said entry for more than six months
last past and further, that he has
never resided upon and Improved and
cultivated said land as required by law
at any time or at all, and that said
alleged absence from the said land
was not due to his employment In the
army, navy or marine corps of the
United States as a private soldier, of
ficer, seaman or marine during the
war with Spain or during any other
war In wlhch the United States may
be engaged.
Said parties are hereby notified to
appear, respond and offer evidence
touching said allegations at 10 o'clock
a. m.t on June 16, 190S, before the reg
ister and receiver at the United States
'.and office in La Grande, Oregon.
