dent, who located at Walla Walla
about two years ago, recently disposed
of his tract of 12 acres near that city
for 1500 per acre. At the time Mr.
Gorden located there he .paid IS500
for the land and secured with it sev
eral head of stock. Mr. Gorden will
reinvest In Walla Walla land. Elgin

A. O. Toung has received the offi
flcial baseball schedule of the Amer
ican league for the 1008 season from
hi brother Cy Toung. who 1 on the
Toung has been the foremost figure In
the nation' baseball circles for several
years, and although past middle age,
still maintains hi reputation of being
one of the best tw triers. In the Ameri
can league. He has the " record of
pitching the greatest game In the his

" E. S. Huff, an aged but enthusiastic
fisherman of this city, caught a Dolly
Varden trout In the Wallowa river
last Sunday that was one of the fin
est specimens of the finny tribe ever
exhibited In Elgin. The speckled beau
ty measured tl Inches In length ' and
weighed eight pounds.' Mr. Huff suc
ceeded In landing the fish with an' or
dinary hook and line and It was un
doubtedly the best catch ever made in
this section. The trout was a beaut
and was the recipient of admlrtng and
enviable looks from many. The sight
of It gave H. H. Weatherspoon, Ar
thur Halgarth and the editor of the
Recorder an itching from which they
will not recover for several days. El

Sib Halgarth of this city, last week
sold his 89-acre farm, located about e
mile north of Elgin, to Adolph Moom
.Ins of Oklahoma, for $6000. Mr. Moo-
mlns Is a brotherym-law of J. L. Mc-
Klnnls, one of the old and respected
pioneers of this section, who now re

the first presentation of the great com
edy success, "Mrs. Temple's Tele
gram" will take place at tho theater.
The engagement Is for one night. This
comedy was produced at the Madison
Square theater. New Tork, and proved
to be such a success that It ran for
over three hundred night. Later Is
waa presented at the Waldorf thea
ter, London, and' there duplicated Its
former triumph. It Is a mirth pro
voker of the highest order, the situa
tions depending entirely upon natural
consequences. Every line is a laugh
and the comedy is . devoid of the
slightest bit of "horse play." The
company selected to play this comedy
haa been selected with the utmost
care. Each actor suiting the part to
a nicety. The leading role will be as
