cans for presidential nomination.
Today the . republican delegates
were not only Instructed to vote for
him,' but they adopted ' a platform
praising his work as United States at
torney general and United States sen
ator, and putting their stamp of ap
proval on the entire administration.
The platform contained significant
planks, in which the necessity of tar
iff legislation was recognised and
many modifications suggested. ' They
are such aa will best subserve the In
terests of the American people. ' .
A currency system permitting more
elasticity was also favored.

In La Grande for a Continued Stay
and Opens a Long Revival at the
Skating Rink Tonight Tried to

Evangelist Haudenschlcld came to
the city last evening from the prose
cution of a very prosperous and suc
cessful campaign In Welser, Idaho!
There were In all about 200 conver
sions, with 176 accessions to the dif
ferent co-operating churches. ' One of
the indirect results was the breaking
up of the high school dances, and an
other was the killing off of the Sun
day baseball games. v ' '
There was great opposition awak
ened, of course, for the evangelist Is
a very heart-searching man In his
public and his personal ministrations.

At 12:30 today, In compliance with
orders issued shortly after 4 o'clock
yesterday afternoon by General Su
perintendent M. J. Buckley and Su
perintendent Campbell, the first train
to leave for Elgin under the ' new
schedule, went out with Conductor
'.Vyatt In charge.
From now on there will be double
service between here and Elgin. The
regular train, In charge of Conductor
Crady, will leave as usual at 8 o'clock
with full passenger equipment. It
will do no local work en route, but
will go to the end of the line with
empty logging cars and return with
loaded cars. It will set out one conch
at Elgin, leaving there at 1 o'clock.
Returning, with express, baggage and
mail, It will do local work, reaching
La Grande at 8 o'clock.
The second train, to be run by con
ductors as "times out" happen, to
catch them, leaves La Grande at 12:30
P. m., carrying empty f logging cart
nd a caboose, doing local work en
oute, and picking up loaded logglnf
?nrs at the Junction. At Elgin It wll!
pick up the one coach and returr
without way work.

recorder's office and transacted

selected a board of managers which
will hereafter attend to the perma

Sherwood Williams, made a hit.
Mr. Coolldge as Harry Swift, and
Miss Stoddard as Hattle Hewlns were
heartily encored and were above
criticism.

ried pert well. Sherwood Williams,
aa his 'son Tom,, showed special gift
for the dramatic. Hugh McCall as
Jim Hewlns. did weli. Miss Gertrude
Blever carried her part ' with more
than the amateur's ability, whll Miss

down the. house. Walter Ferguson as
Millard Hilton, the villain. Is to be
commended for the way he carried
his difficult part. Little Lorna Cool
ldge was greeted with applause and

The band boys expect to present
"For Brother Tom" again tonight,
and It Is hoped that they will play to
