' ' ' series of Saturday attractions that will bring hundreds here, are two highly commendable acts done by La Orande recently, which will give more deslra ble publicity to the city than most any other medium. Our exchange table demonstrates that the Items of mar ket day, stock shows and of perma nent organization of the Amusement association which are proposed here are liberally clipped and, printed in the weekly papers. The populated and remotely-located sections of the state are hearing of La Grande ever' day. , PCltSE STRINGS CXT. 1 It required a little coaxing to get things moving right at the mass meeting last evening, but with his characteristic "stlck-to-lt" Toni Rich ardson soon had purse string untied and our business men responded no bly. Those who were not there, were placed on the calling list and will be given a chance to see what ' their brethren In business did do last nlifht. and what they will do. Thirty-three hundred dollars is a considerable sum for an assembly of about 100 men to raise. , Nice work. Let's stay with It! m ; O. R, A N. Answers Baker City. A report from Salem states that W. W. Cotton, attorney for the O. R. & N. ha filed an answer to the com plaint made fiefore the railroad com mission April 1 by the Business Men's association and Citizens' league of Ba ker City. The discrimination protest ed against by the people of Baker are similar to those complained of by the business men of Spokane in the case before the Interstate commerce com mission, though on a ttvuch smaller scale. The O. R. & X, company, through its attorney, denies the alle gation made In the compallnt as they apply to any discrimination against the Jobbing Interests of Baker City, and In effect denies there are any large Interests in Baker City that are affected by the rate now in force.
