Mrs. John Goodall and sons, Gor don and Lawrence, left last evening for Crooks Inlet, Alaska. They have been visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Carpy for some time, and go now to Join the husband and fath er, who is employed there. Max Zimmerman, the horse show and market day man, is in La Grandt again. He reached here from .Bakei City lHt evening. At that place he pulled off a remarkably successful horse show last Saturday and he is confident he will be as successful In La Grande as he was (here. The La Grande lorn Works has Just completed a solid Iron roller that Is attracting considerable interest and comment It leaves the ground In small ridges which is especially ad vantageous to those tracts that are subject to heavy winds. It weighs about 2000 pounds and will last for many centuries. Mr. and Mrs. F. 8. Newsome, now of Portland, but formerly residents of this city, arrived last "evening to visit their many friends here and to spend some time with their daughter, Mrs. L. E. Dunn. Mr. and Mrs. Newsome moved from La Grande a little less than two yfcars ago, and are pleased with the opportunity of again visiting their friends here. J. W. Knowles 'of La Grande, was well known tn Wallowa county, by reputation at least, before he became a candidate for the republican nomi nation for circuit Judge. In the last month he has become well known per sonally and the more the people here see of him the better they like him His reputation as a lawyer Is of the highest order and he would. If elect ed adorn the bench with dignity, lm- partiality and wisdom.
