Last season the management at Walla Walla refused to allow the team to content, as It had no past record to corroborate its statement that it was fit to compete with the best in the land. Since making creditable show ings at Corvallis and in the eastern Oregon meet last summer, the Walla Walla managers have' seen that Island City is entitled to representation. This will be the opening track event of the season for the suburbans, as It Is for the La Orande team. Thus another eastern Oregon team will enter the arena for hoonrs among the high schools of the northwest. C. K. THORNTON. Architect and Engineer. Surveying, Civil and Structural Engl- neering. The Hariiman lines have withdrawn from passenger business In Seattle md hereafter no tickets will be sold hy thMD linen from Seattle to eastern points or over the Southern Pacific until such time as the new extension of the Union Pacific establishes Its western terminal In Seattle. . The withdrawal of Harrlman from the Seattle fkld Is due to the recent decision of the Interstate commerce commission, which makes It lllega for any railroad to sell tickets over a line with wich It has no tariff con currence agreement. The action o. the Northern Pacific, which Isthi only outlt from Seattle to Portland now the western terminal of the Har- imun lines, In declining to concur oi rates. Is the basis for the decision o: the commission. Being barred from competing fo: through business, Harrlman has als decided to cease the sale ' of ticket? over the Southern Pacific from Scat lie, although the decision of the com mission docs not affect that route The expense of handling this buslner ivlll be left to competing roads, whlli the Southern Pacific will continue tr enjoy the same profits, as there la no through competitive rate to the south Walla Walla Bulletin.
