On Thursday and Friday nights of next week, the strong Enterprise baseball team will be here, and will cross bats with a local team which perfected Its organization last night. Soon after the series here, the La Grande team will go to Wallowa coun ty, where It will contest with Lostlne. Enterprise and Joseph. Enterprise has the strongest team In Wallowa county, where the sport has been the all-absorbing topic of the past several months. It comes to La Grande with months of practice, while the home team must whip itself Into shape in something like a week and a half. The first practice will be held at the Com mercial club next Wednesday night. Indoor baseball has been perma nently organized here. The organiza tion was perfected last evening, and will hold over until next winter, when the sport will be taken up earlier In the season. It Is still too early to state who will constitute the team, but the city has a' strong twirler In S. D. Crowe, who has a past record In the game. His long experience will materially aid the other candidates. At the meeting Inst night, he was selected captain and coach. The other officials of the or ganization are: Walter Ferguson, sec-rotary-treasurer, and A. W. Nelson, manager. IIOrSEWIVES AS CLERKS. Neighborhood Club Women Taking Turns at Selling Drew Goods. The special sales at the People's store under the direction of the Neighborhood club, which receives liberal per cent of the receipts dur ing the week, are progressing nicely. Housewives are acting as clerks, with assistance from the regular force of employes, and the many ladles who each day have charge of the sales are delighted with their work. Each day sees a new force (f supernumerary clerks. Yesterday the Neighborhood club members who had charge, were: Mrs. N. Molltor, chairman; Mrs. O. E. Sllverthorn, Miss Nina Hunstock, Mes dames Selders, T. J. Seroggln, J. M. Berry. E. E. Bragg and J. D. Slater. Today the personnel of the Im promptu clerks Is: .Mrs. Mallory, chairman; Mesdames Kirk.
