Uncle Sain to Bay Horses. -Washington, March S. Uncle Sam needs 850 horses for his artillery and cavalry, and bids for this number of equlnes will be opened today in sev eral of the prominent bone markets of the west The bids will be for warded to the war department for final action. This is the largest num ber of horses advertised for by the government since the Spanish-Ameri can war. Notice of City Election. Be It resolved by the council of the city of La Grande, Ore., that the re corder shall give notice by publica tion In the La Grands Evening Ob server, for the period of. 10 days, of the general election to be held on March the 8th, 1908, for the election of a mayor, recorder, treasurer, mar shal and one councilman from each ward of the city, and that the judges and clerks of the First ward shall be as follows: Judges J. P. Clark, E. C. Davie and Arthur Wranlck. Clerks D. E. Cox and Arthur Curtis. The voting place shall be at the city hall; Ana mat the voting place In the Second ward shall be the council room, and the judges and clerks shall be as follows: Judges H. W. Stoner, David Bay and George Bal Clerks H. E. Coolldge and A. W. Nelaon.
