Unite Social Forces.
New York, Feb. 17. Hundreds of
clergymen, labor leaders, socialists, so
ciologists and ethical and social work'
ere assembled today for the first gen
eral conference of the League of So
cial and Ethical Forces. Bishop Oreer
Is the presiding officer of the meeting,
which was called at the Hotel Astor,
The new body has been In process of
formation for a year and has for Its
object the alliance of all the forces In
the community which make for right
eousness.
' The creed of the new league, which
la wide enough to admit to member
ship all humanitarians, whether Prot
estant, Catholic, Jew or agnostic, is as
follows:
"This organization was prompted by
the prevailing consciousness that the
present separation between the forces
that make for righteousness in this
community Involves great loss of
power. By the bringing of represen
tatives of the various ethical social In
terests into a fellowship of service,
where personal acquaintance will be
cultivated and knowledge and experi
ence exchanged, separation and dis
trust will be overcome, and the ethical
forces united in the support of meaa
ures which command the assent of
all."
