Captain Harmon Stein reports that

spring. Through graduation and sev

the well known all-around men have
left the ranks. Practices are held

Baton Rouge, La., Feb. 24. The
Baton Rouge, Hammond Sc. Eastern
railroad, an Illinois Central line, was
opened for traffic today between Ba
ton Rouge and Covington, a distance
of 67 miles. The road has been un
der construction for the past year and
may eventually be operated as part of
the Illinois Central system, and when
the entire line Is completed the dis
tance between Memphis and Baton
Rouge will be shortened over 100 pilles
from the present route by way of New

Trenton, N. J., Feb. 24. Gilbert
Maddox, convicted of the murder of
James E. Camm, an aged watchman
In a Brldgeton factory, la under sen
tence to die In the electric chair this
week. The keys of the old watchman
were found on Maddox when he waa
arrested. The murder waa commuted
rwlth an ax, with which Maddox had
afterward tried to break open the
factory safe.
