question U often asked: Will Imbler
get a aaloon this election? The sa
loon man comes around and offers
voters a drink of poor whisky and
then asks how he will vote, thus placing-
the price of man's vote at drink
of whisky. They say It will help the
town, but do thoy know that Imbler
n6wft three ' times ' the slxe it . was
when It had a saloon? Again, you
can be convinced by seeing the towns
of Muskogee, Tulsa and South McAl
lister, formerly in the Indian ' terri
tory, but now a part of Oklahoma, that
have a population of from 15,000 to
30,000, and a saloon has never existed
in them, wallowa county is more
prosperous today than it ever was be
fore. It is just as Impossible to run
saloons without boys as It is a mill
without wheat Who will furnish the

TOWN WITHOUT A NAME.
Has Hotels, Shop and Other Build
ings, But No Towns! te.
A good, healthy and thriving town,
though so far nameless, Is springing
up on the right of way of the Chica
go, Milwaukee A St. Paul railway,
about 12 miles from Taft, or midway
between the main St Joe, where Pin
chot Is located, and Taft,' says the
Lewiston Teller. '
Already there are hotels, feed sta
bles, a slaughter house and several
other buildings In town and th for
estry officials have just received an
application from C. B. Peck and Geo.
B. Singleton for permission to erect
a building and conduct a general mer
chandise business at the place.
The ground is said to bo held by
private Individuals under quarts and
placer mining locations and tracts art
rented to the newcomers, though It Is
necessary to get a permit from the
government before engaging In busi
ness on account of the site's being on
reserve. . r
As yet there have been no townsltes
formally laid out ajong the Milwau
kee through the reserves, although
the local forestry officials have been
expecting petitions for this purpose.
Th site at Pinchot Is owned by a
privute Individual, and It Is probable
a townslte will soon be laid out there,
though It Is reported there will be lit
tle room for th town after the side
tracks and railroad shops are erected.
